DOOR PRIZES: If your last name begins with F or H please bring a door prize to the February meeting and give it to Elisabeth McMahon. This is a voluntary effort, but most of us like to receive a door prize and we hope everyone will participate. Please bring only quilting related items such as: Quilting Notions, fat quarters, triangle paper, magnetic pin holders, scissors, Pigma pens, etc.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER The weather has been gorgeous and I am torn between working at my machine or planting something. Spring really makes me want to retire, but then I begin to think of all the retired people I know and they don’t seem to get any more done than I do. My husband’s days fill up so fast since he retired that he does not get anything done that I want done. Hum… I know it might sound selfish, but I want a vacation just to myself…I can get up when I want, eat when I want and sew all day in my pajamas if I want. Sounds like a dream doesn’t it. Happy spring!

- 2 or 3 cutting mats/rotary cutters
- 2 or 3 sewing machines
- Iron/ironing board
- Backing fabric (Lisa Boyce had indicated she had backing fabric to bring)
- 6 inch charm squares or fabric scraps that can be cut into 6 inch squares that you don’t want/need anymore
- Sewing kits (scissors, thread, pins, etc.) — everyone should at least bring this

“April Showers bring May Flowers”
SPRING BLOSSOM
DOWNLOAD AND PRINT PATTERN ———————————————>>
This Pattern is applique and feel free to use the applique method you use interfacing material.
Cut 4-A , flower petals and 4 interfacings-use template A
Cut I-B, flower center and 1 interfacing-Use template B
Cut– One (1) 121/2 inch background block, white, white/white ,muslin
One fat quarter for four flower petals-color of your choice
One small piece of material for flower center-color of your choice
Interfacing material for back of flower petals and flower center (optional, you may use the applique method of your choice)
Sew around each petal and interfacing, leaving bottom opened, then tum and press
Sew around flower center and interfacing, cut opening in interfacing and tum and press. Now you have your flower pieces. If desired you can remove the interfacing material.
Now take applique placement diagram and follow the simple instructions.
Applique Preparation:
- Fold the background square in half top to bottom, fmger press and unfold.
- Fold background material from left to right, finger press and unfold.
- Using the fold lines as guides and the placement diagram place your applique pieces on the background square.
- Using pins secure your flower pieces in place. You may wish to use basting thread to secure them before doing your applique stitching.
WORKSHOP NEWS
MAY WORKSHOP
The Irish Chain workshop will be held May 16 at First Presbyterian Church from 9-3. Choose your pattern, whether it is a true Irish Chain or a variation of it. Buy fabric according to pattern directions or use what you have in your stash. Go ahead and cut everything so you will be ready to sew. Tables will be set up so you can sew as soon as you arrive. There will be an iron and ironing board available also.
Bring your sewing machine and any rulers or other supplies you need for your project. Be sure to include thread and extra needles for your sewing machine.
Bring any snacks or drinks you want for the day as well as a salad or other dish to share for lunch (that’s always the best thing about workshops).
Call or email me with any questions. You can still sign up at the May meeting. If you find you cannot attend after signing up, please let me know.

MINUTES
- The April 6, 2009 meeting of the Quilter’s Guild of Grand Prairie was called to order by President, Debi Cypert at 7 p.m.
- The minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter.
- The treasurer’s report was approved and filed for audit.
- Remembrances: Cathy Mullin’s daughter, Jennifer Wright is still undergoing cancer treatment. Carol Franklin’s surgery was postponed from last week to this week. Former member Jimmi Geer passed away on March 19th.
- Membership: 14 members and 1 visitor, Hollie McNeely.
- Publicity: The information about our meeting was in the Grand Prairie Today newspaper and The Dallas Morning News calendar.
- Block of the Month: Five blocks were turned in and Marty won the drawing.
- Next month’s block was handed out and will be printed in the newsletter.
- Workshops: Show and Tell from the Crazy Quilt workshop on March 7th–Shirley, Susan, and Elisabeth all brought what they worked on.
- The Irish Chain workshop will be May 16th at First Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone bring a covered dish (salad, dessert, etc.) to share. Sign up sheet is available.
- Retreat will be July 24-26 in Weatherford. Right now there are 8 signed up, we can have up to 12. Anyone interested should let Michelle know.
- Upcoming programs: May will be charity sewing. Newsletter will have more information.
- Door prizes: Susan, Linda, Lisa. Show and Tell: Susan, Wanda.
- Program: Elisabeth talked about depth and dimensional effect in quilting and Susan talked about casting shadows.
- The meeting was adjourned about 7:50 p.m.
