Wow! What a great turn-out for a very cold first meeting of 2018! I am so excited that so many of you brought your first “Be My Neighbor” block for our 2018 block of the month. They all look so different – from Jeri’s black background depicting a night sky with sparkling stars to Barbara G., Ann and Sue with blue backgrounds to Shirley’s batiks and Christine’s French Village with extra items appliqued. From purple houses to pink houses to yellow houses, they all look great and I can’t wait to see Block 2. If you haven’t started, Block 1 went together easily and you should have no trouble catching up by the meeting on February 5th.

It was great to see the participation in the show and tell related to the program. So many of you brought one or more quilts made with precuts to share. Hopefully all the precuts shown at the meeting will inspire you. There are lots and lots of patterns out there to make with precuts. I look forward to seeing what you bring next month that was made with scraps.
I mentioned in the last newsletter that I would share the president’s challenge in February. Be sure to come to the February meeting to find out about my challenge to each of you for 2018.
See you February 5th!

Membership dues for 2018 were due in January. If you didn’t pay your dues in January, please remember to pay Sue Heard at the February meeting. Regular members are $20 and persons age 65 and older are $15.

The 2018 membership directory will be available at the February meeting. All members that paid their dues before the February meeting are listed in the directory. If you join in February or later, a supplement to the directory will be available in August.

“The Choices We Make” is the theme for 2018. In February we will focus on managing your stash. Each month we will have a special show and tell in addition to the regular show and tell. For February I ask that you bring quilts made from your scraps. Be sure to share the pattern name in case someone in the guild is interested.

After the program we will have a baby shower for Lauren. She is expecting a boy and her due date is March 25. She is registered at Amazon.com and at Target. See you February 5.

The 2018 Block Party will follow a program from Moda that provided 16 “blueprint” block patterns that comprise the Moda Be My Neighbor quilt.

Quilt Guild members should have received an e-mail from contact@paco.org (Francisco Rodriguez) with the quilt’s fabric requirements and layout as well as the pattern for the second block.

The patterns and instructions are freely available on the web and will also be posted in the quilt’s website.

The blueprints are rendered in gray-scale to allow everyone to color their neighborhood using a wide variety of fabric and color choices. These are very scrappy blocks — mix your favorite fabric and colors to create your colorful neighborhood. There are 16 blocks in the quilt top. The quilt top measures 68 inches by 84 1/2 inches.

If you have any questions, please contact Christine.

Instructions (click to download PDF):

Block 2 (click to download PDF):

  • Beginning balance … $1136.58
  • Deposit … 400
