PRESIDENT’S CORNER

December! Hard to believe it’s time for the holidays! It was great to see participation in the Half Square Triangle Challenge. Congratulations to the winners — Patsy, Janis and Jeri. The December meeting should be lots of fun with the Christmas party and gift exchange. Don’t forget we’ll have drawings for the perfect attendance award and for the President’s challenge. Many of you have participated in show and tell this year. For each month you brought something for show and tell, your name will go in the drawing one time. So far, the highest number is 8. That person will get her name in 8 times. December’s show and tell will count.

So, don’t forget to make something this month and bring it for show and tell!

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Don’t forget that the drawing for the free 2018 membership will be at our December meeting. You are eligible if you have had perfect attendance in 2017.

TAQG REPORT

The next TAQG meeting will be on Saturday, January 27 at 10 a.m. There will be 3 break-out meetings, one for presidents, one for secretaries, and one for treasurers of local quilt guilds. It will be held at the Mineola League of Arts, 200 W. Blair St., Mineola, TX. Please plan to attend if you will be the president, secretary, or treasurer of a local quilt guild in 2018, or are considering one of those positions in the future. There are a couple of great quilt shops near Mineola, including Stitchin’ Heaven. It’s a great chance for a field trip. There will even be a room set aside for people who have car-pooled down with others, but do not need to attend a meeting themselves. It’s a great way to meet other quilters. Bring some hand-work and come along!

Rally Day 2018 will be on Saturday, July 14th at 9 a.m. at the Mimosa Lane Baptist Church, 1233 N. Belt Line Road, Mesquite, TX The speaker will be Deb Tucker, the originator of The Rapid Fire Hunters Star ruler and technique. Details about the workshops will come out in February. The dates of the workshops will be Thursday, and Friday July 12 and 13 in Mesquite; and Monday and Tuesday July 16 and 17 in a different location. For the first time ever, TAQG will charge admission to Rally Day. It will be $5 for guild members with a valid membership card, and $10 for guests. This is still a bargain, so make plans now to attend. The workshops are expected to fill up quickly, so if you are interested, be sure to contact one of us (see below) immediately after the January TAQG meeting on the 27th, so that you can mail in your enrollment form with the fees ASAP.

If you are interested in attending any of these events, or have questions about TAQG; please contact either Katrina Lindley krazykat1952@gmail.com (817) 477-5793 or Janice Overton Janice.overton64@yahoo.com (972) 978-8333.

WORKSHOP

We will be having our last workshop of the year on Saturday December 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you have been interested in working on the block of the month this will be the perfect time to catch up! Just a reminder that we have been working on the Modern Sampler Quilt-a-Long from the Elven Garden. Please make sure to print out your directions and any paper piecing that you will need. I will have one copy of each block for a reference, but I will not have extras for paper piecing. We will have a holiday themed pot luck lunch. Bring a dish that you enjoy eating during the holidays. Until then, happy sewing!

DECEMBER PROGRAM

December is upon us once again! For this meeting we will be having a potluck and gift exchange game! Bring a covered dish to share and the officers should also bring drinks. For the gift exchange, please bring a gift to play the game. The dollar amount cap will be $15. The gift does not have to be quilting related, but remember your audience when choosing gifts! We will also be collecting canned or non-perishable goods for the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-Op. Hope to see everyone there….It will be tons of fun!!!
