BIRTHDAYS

Grace Norris … June 19

PRESIDENT’S CORNER

The older I get the harder it is to be away from home for any length of time, so this month has been a little busy. First I had a reunion with several high school classmates from Healdton, Oklahoma. We meet outside Corsicana at a friend’s lake house and the six of us talked for four days. It was wonderful to catch up with old friends, eat good food and relax outside for morning coffee and evening glass of wine.

I was home two days when I left for a quilt retreat. Now, what is not to like about quilting for a few days without interruptions or taking care of things around the house! I did get to work on a couple of projects but the real entertainment was the deer and squirrels and rabbits that would come visit in the morning and evening.

Good to be home where I can control my eating…I really liked eating like I shouldn’t.

JUNE PROGRAM

The June program will be about signature quilts. This type of quilt was made as early as the 1600s and is still popular today. If you have made a signature quilt or received a signature quilt as a gift, please bring it to show as a part of the program. Hope to see you on June 6.

WORKSHOP NEWS

Our next workshop will be June 4th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. It will be a charity workshop. Some of you may remember that when TAQG (Texas Association of Quilt Guilds) disbanded in 2020, we received a grant of about $200 (I think a bit more than $200) to use to purchase batting/backings to complete some Quilts of Valor tops. I would like this workshop to be a Quilts of Valor workshop. We can make some blocks and then use those blocks to make some quilt tops. The pattern that I will be providing is the 2022 Quilts of Valor National Block Drive block from their website: https://www.qovf.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/2022-Floating-Churn-Dash.pdf. It should be done in reds or blues with a neutral background color. If you would like to make some blocks ahead of time to have some ready-to-make quilt tops, you may do so. If you prefer to make a different quilt block, you may do so, but please make sure it is 12.5 unfinished and is done in reds or blues with a neutral background.

Lunch will be on your own.
