PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Wow. Can you believe it’s the middle of June already? We are almost halfway through the year. How are you doing on your quilting goals? Are you where you want to be? Are you keeping up with your blocks of the month or any quilt along in which you are participating? Are you part of the Stitch-A-Bit Stitch Group? Have you been to a quilt show? Are you attending TAQG Rally Day in July? How about a retreat? Are you challenging yourself with techniques that you haven’t been comfortable with before? If you put a moratorium on fabric purchases, how are you doing with that? I’ll answer these questions. I am not keeping up with my quilt along or blocks of the month. I have been to a quilt show – Dallas in March,  Kansas City in June and a few more on tap for this year (Ellis County in July, Plano in August and the big one in Arlington in August). I do plan to attend Rally Day in Mesquite on July 8th. I have been on one retreat this year and another one is in the works for October. Retreats with friends are the best!

I have challenged myself with paper piecing and have gotten pretty good at it. I can’t resist purchasing fabric, so never tell myself I can’t buy – I’ll probably write more on this in the next newsletter as I’m going on a shop hop with a stop at Missouri Star – and I know I will be buying fabric!

Create something wonderful this month and don’t forget to bring it to show and tell!

WORKSHOP

Our panel workshop has been re-scheduled to Saturday July 29 from 9:00AM-3:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church where we normally have our workshops and meetings. If you would like to come and have not chosen a pattern please let me know by July 19. If you do not know from which patterns you can choose please contact me and I will send you a list. We will have a potluck lunch and the theme for this lunch will be rainbow. Please contact me if you have any questions either by phone or email. Happy Sewing!

JULY PROGRAM

In July, we will celebrate the Guild’s 24th birthday!

We will have dinner from Eddlemon’s Barbecue. Officers should bring drinks. Anyone that wants to can bring dessert to share. We will also have our Annual Auction. Proceeds will benefit the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-Op.

Look around your sewing area and gather up any new or gently used sewing or quilting related items. Orphan Blocks, fat quarters, fabric, books, patterns, notions, anything you don’t want or need.

We will also be collecting non-perishables for the Co-Op. Be sure to look in your pantry. Please no expired food.

September meeting: Mug Rug Challenge

Two categories: Hot beverage & Cold beverage

For each category, you will pick a cup and a small something to go with it. You will also make a mug rug to go with your cup. There are no set parameters for this challenge except that you need to provide a mug or cup and a mug rug that you have made to go with it. The small something else will be of your choosing. The size/design/fabric for the mug rug will be of your choosing. You bring your mug rug challenge items in a gift bag in September. Please make sure that you write either “hot” or “cold” on the outside of the bag.

I will have a sign-up sheet for you to sign up for this challenge. Please place you name under either hot or cold beverage as to which you will be participating in. You can participate in both if you wish. There will be a limit of 2 entries per category.

November meeting: Half Square Triangle Challenge

Your challenge should you choose to accept it, is to take half square triangles….and be creative!

At the November meeting, we will ask anyone who wants to participate in this challenge to bring any size wall hanging or larger quilt (minimum: 12″ x 12″, maximum: unlimited). You may choose any pattern you wish. You may choose any color you wish. The only requirement for the pattern is that you somehow incorporate half square triangles into it. Each entry should be quilted and bound. Upon arrival, you will be asked to turn it over to us in a bag/pillowcase/etc. with your name on it somewhere so we can return it to you when we are finished. We will hang/display everyone’s finished project in an area with only a number on it. Each member/guest in attendance will have a chance to cast votes for their favorites. Once that has been done, the winner will be announced and will receive a prize! And remember, we will also be looking for creativity in how you incorporate the half square triangles!

We will be doing sign-ups for this challenge to ensure we have enough of everything we need to display the quilts for voting. Please sign up with me no later than the August meeting!

Please make sure you contact me either at customerservice@angelsandmoore.com or at (214)415-5251 if you have any questions or concerns! Also, Paco will be sending out a separate email with important information….Please Read!
