PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I‘ve been on a “finishing” kick lately – choosing to quilt some tops inexpertly myself, and bind them on the machine. Certainly not heirloom quality, but done! My favorite kind of quilt! But finishing can be like eating vegetables, and I’m looking forward to “dessert” again – choosing fabrics and starting a brand new pattern.

Our free quilt pattern of the month comes from Coats – yes, the thread people! Their Luck of the Irish table runner comes together with scraps for a quick bit of St. Patrick’s decor.

MARCH PROGRAM

Our program for March will be focusing on how to make our piecing more accurate. I know I love it when my quilts go together easily instead of having to fudge. It might take a little time to figure out exactly what happened but in the long run I think the results will speak for themselves.

Bring ideas to share with others so we can all learn. Look forward to seeing y’all.

2023 SEW-A-LONG

For 2023 we’ll have another SAL (sew-a-long).  The final size will be 70×70 and this quilt will be a 3-color quilt.  The author made it a Christmas quilt in Red, Green, and White, but I am doing mine in Red, Black, and White.  The blocks are all 8 1/2 inch blocks and there are 25.  We will plan on doing 3 blocks per month.  I will bring blocks 7-9 and their instructions to the March meeting.  Fabric requirements are generous and are as follows:  Background – 4.5 yds.; main fabric including the border and sashing (red in the quilt picture) – 5.5 yds.; secondary fabric (green in the picture) – 2.5 yds..  If you don’t have enough yardage of one of the fabrics, you could put multiple fabrics of the same color together to give it more of a scrappy look.  If you want to make each block a different color, you could do that as well and adjust the yardage as necessary.
