PRESIDENT’S CORNER

How did it get to be November already? Time flies! Did you make something for the Half Square Triangle Challenge? I hope you are participating. I look forward to seeing what everyone has created. Were you able to sign up for the workshop for the Judy Neimeyer quilt? If you didn’t already have something on your calendar, I hope you signed up for this workshop. It’s a technique that I would love to learn. If you started working on the Guild block of the month and got behind or abandoned the project, I hope you will participate in the workshop that Lauren is planning for December. I fell behind in July and plan to use the workshop to catch up on my blocks.

Don’t forget to make something this month and bring it for show and tell!

TAQG REPORT

The next TAQG meeting will be on Tuesday, November 14th at Garden Ridge Church of Christ, 102 N Garden Ridge Blvd, Lewisville, TX. This month it will be our annual Speaker’s Forum. The TAQG business meeting and a meeting for all people in charge of programs for their local quilt guilds will both begin at 10 a.m (in different rooms). The Speaker’s Forum will begin as soon as we finish a light lunch. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in meeting local speakers, especially if you are responsible for providing programs or workshops for your local guild.

Looking ahead, the January meeting will be for all presidents, secretaries, and treasurers of local quilt guilds. It will be held at 10 a.m. on a Saturday in January at the Mineola League of Arts, 200 W Blair St, Mineola, TX. The exact date will be announced shortly. Please plan to attend if you will be the president, secretary, or treasurer of a local quilt guild in 2018. There are a couple of great quilt shops near Mineola, including Stitchin Heaven. It’s a great chance for a field trip.

Rally Day 2018 will be on Saturday, July 14th at 9 a.m. at the Mimosa Lane Baptist Church, 1233 N. Belt Line Road, Mesquite, TX The speaker will be Deb Tucker, the originator of The Rapid Fire Hunters Star ruler and technique. deb-tucker Details about the workshops will come out in February. The dates of the workshops will be Thursday and Friday July 12 & 13 in Mesquite; and Monday and Tuesday July 16 and 17th in a different location.

If you are interested in attending any of these events, or have questions about TAQG; please contact either Katrina Lindley or Janice Overton.

NOVEMBER PROGRAM

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to take half square triangles….and be creative!

At the November meeting, we will ask anyone who wants to participate in this challenge to bring any size from a 12″X12″ wall hanging or larger quilt. You may choose any pattern you wish. You may choose any color you wish. The only requirement for the pattern is that you somehow incorporate half square triangles into it. Each entry should be quilted and bound (and no, there is no specific binding you have to use. And, yes, wrap binding is acceptable for this challenge!).

Upon arrival, you will be asked to turn it over to us in a bag/pillowcase/etc so no one can see it beforehand with your name on it somewhere so we can return it to you when we are finished. We will hang/display everyone’s finished project in an area with only a number on it. Each member/guest in attendance will have a chance to cast votes for their favorites. Once that has been done, the winner will be announced and will receive a prize! And remember, we will also be looking for creativity in how you incorporate the half square triangles!

We will be doing sign-ups for this challenge to ensure we have enough of everything we need to display the quilts for voting. Please sign up with me no later than November 3!

Paco will send out a separate email with the list of names I have as well as instructions for the Quilt as you go Evelyn did at the October meeting!

Please make sure you contact me either at customerservice@angelsandmoore.com or at (214)415-5251 if you have any questions or concerns or still want to participate!
