President’s CORNER
Do you read the newsletters of other quilt guilds? I read about 10 other quilt guild newsletters (and have for years). Do you go to other Guild’s meetings – especially when there is a national speaker? Do you go to the Texas Association of Quilt Guild’s Rally Day each July to hear their national speaker? If you haven’t heard a nationally known quilter, you’ve missed out. On April 18th, my mom and I went to the Bear Creek Quilt Guild meeting in Grapevine and saw Bonnie Hunter’s program. For those of you that are not familiar with Bonnie, she is a well known author, pattern designer, blogger, quilter. She is especially known for her scrap quilts – most with little pieces. She has a Facebook group – Quiltville’s Open Studio with over 70,000 members. Her program was wonderful and we found out about it because I happened to read the Bear Creek Guild’s newsletter before the meeting happened. We’ve seen Debbie Maddy in Irving and Pat Speth in Arlington because of reading those guild’s newsletters.

This year’s speaker for Rally Day is Cynthia Regone. While I hadn’t heard of her before, I am sure she will be great. Last year’s speaker, Kimberly Einmo was wonderful. I’ve heard Pat Speth, Pam Bono and a few others. Mark July 8th on your calendar – TAQG Rally Day in Mesquite. Free admission since we are a member guild. Bring a friend that is not in a member guild and they get in for $5. Create something wonderful this month and don’t forget to bring it to show and tell!

Our next workshop will be Saturday June 3 from 9:00AM-3:00PM at Inglewood Baptist Church (1901 S Carrier Parkway) and we will have a rainbow-themed potluck lunch. Bring food that represents any color of the rainbow! We are going to work on panel quilts! I have several ideas and patterns that you can choose from with 3 different styles: horizontal panels, segmented panels, and fancy borders. Please let me know which pattern you would like in advance (so I can print it out), and if it needs to be purchased please let me know at least 10 days before the workshop (May 24). Inglewood is allowing us to come for free, but I would like to suggest a donation of $5 per person for the use of their facility. I hope to see you there. Until then, happy sewing!

The year is almost half over with already! And I do not know about you, but I need to get started on all those summer and holiday projects laying in wait for me! For the month of June, our program will cover the subject of summer and holiday wreaths (One in particular)!!! And before you start wondering what this has to do with quilting??? Just wait! This particular wreath has quilted elements to it!!!! I will be doing a short tutorial on how to make it during the meeting as well as some other tidbits!!!

Also, if you have an Operation Shoebox, please bring it to the meeting with you!
