PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Is good lighting in your sewing area a priority for you? For several years, my lighting has been less than ideal in my sewing room but I compensated with extra lamps. Recently I decided that my old eyes deserved better so I called an electrician to come to install a new ceiling fan with better lighting. What a difference! I still have my extra lamps and hanging light, but with this new lighting, I probably won’t use those even at night. Why did I wait so long?

I am still sewing at least ten minutes a day (usually more). Are you? I finished one of the UFO projects I showed at the January meeting and am working on the second one. There are so many new projects I want to start, but I am trying to finish some old ones before starting something new.

Happy sewing,

Shirley Lewis

MARCH PROGRAM

Our March program will be all about the latest and greatest quilting and sewing items. We’ll talk about what’s all the rage according to the quilting community as well as talk about what your favorite items are. What items are on your sewing table all the time? What items can you not live without? Bring the one quilting or sewing item that you cannot live without to the meeting on March 2nd and tell us what you love about it.

TAQG REPORT

Save the date! Rally Day will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 11th at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church, 3018 N Belt Line Rd., Sunnyvale, TX 75182. Rally Day will be FREE for everyone in honor of TAQG’s 20th anniversary. The speaker this year will be Marti Michell. Check out her web page to find out more about her quilts: http://www.frommarti.com

We will be collecting new sewing related items to use to assemble a couple of door prizes to give away at Rally Day. We also need two people to volunteer to make a mini-quilt or other quality hand-crafted item for the Silent Auction. If you make a mini-quilt, no side can exceed 24 inches in length. Items which have sold well in the past are table runners and purses

Registration has begun for the workshops. The cost is $79 for guild members. You can download them from the TAQG website. Be sure to mail them in along with a check payable to TAQG to the address on the form ASAP. We are expecting these workshops to fill up quickly this year. Don’t miss out. You do NOT need to logon to download the forms. Here is a list of the 3 different workshops offered this year, with a link to the registration forms on the TAQG.org website:

We will begin selling lunch tickets, and Rally Day pins at our April meeting. If you have any questions about TAQG or Rally Day, please contact Katrina Lindley (krazykat1952@gmail.com) or (817) 691-5433.

MINUTES

  • The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by President Shirley Lewis. Our quote for the month: ‘I like to come here because you don’t roll your eyes when I talk about fabric.’
  • The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as printed in the Newsletter and filed.
  • The Treasurer’s report was approved as printed in the Newsletter after a notation that it should read Ending Balance with no month mentioned. The report was then filed for audit.

  • There were no remembrances this month.
  • Announcements: There is free fabric on the front counter. Barbara Cochran, GP Historical Organization, inquired if any of our ladies would like to set up a booth at the annual Prairie Days celebration on March 21st to sell quilts and also to talk with anyone interested in quilting. This is also open to anyone who does crocheting. If interested, please let Shirley know tonight.
