PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

When I travel, I love to find quilt stores in the towns I visit, and I especially love it when they carry fabrics and patterns that reflect something unique about the location.

But even if you don’t find a quilt store on vacation, you can still get inspiration from:

Color palettes – water, skies, foliage, mountains

Architectural features like arches and stained glass windows

Tiled walls and floors

Textiles like tapestries, woven rugs, dyed fabrics

Your phone is your best tool to capture these inspirations for later sewing.

This month’s free quilt pattern is from Quilting Daily. This easy quilt features stripes and circles that will remind you of tropical waters under setting suns.

AUGUST PROGRAM

The program for August will be exploring several machine appliqué techniques. I have tried several and took a class at the International Quilt Show in Houston so maybe we will find something for everyone. Look forward to seeing y’all. Stay cool.

2023 SEW-A-LONG

For 2023 we’ll have another SAL (sew-a-long). The final size will be 70×70 and this quilt will be a 3 color quilt. The author made it a Christmas quilt in Red, Green and White, but I am doing mine in Red, Black and White. The blocks are all 8 1/2 inch blocks and there are 25. We will plan on doing 3 blocks per month. I will bring blocks 22-25 to the August meeting. Fabric requirements are generous and are as follows: Background – 4.5 yds.; main fabric including the border and sashing (red in the quilt picture) – 5.5 yds.; secondary fabric (green in the picture) – 2.5 yds.. If you don’t have enough yardage of one of the fabrics, you could put multiple fabrics of the same color together to give it more of a scrappy look. If you want to make each block a different color, you could do that as well and adjust the yardage as necessary.
