PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Hard to believe it’s already 2018! Time goes by fast! This year, challenge yourself to do something new in your sewing/quilting. Do something outside your comfort zone. Be sure to join the Block of the Month — The Moda Be My Neighbor blocks look great and should be fun. Look for the 2018 President’s Challenge info in the February newsletter.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the January 1 meeting!

THANK YOU!

Thank you for everyone’s participation in our wonderful Christmas celebration. I think everyone had a lot of fun! Also thank you to all who generously donated to the Grand Prairie Co-Op. It has been a great two years and I have enjoyed being your first vice-president and trying my best to create enjoyable programs for all of you! Also thank you to all who have helped me along the way in making these programs work for our guild! I wish my successor all the best!

Carrie Stanford

Thank you to all who rocked to make 2017 a great year for the guild. Special thanks to Carrie for the monthly programs, Lauren for the workshops, Grace for stitch group, and Christine for leading block of the month!

FOOD DONATION

Thanks to everyone who brought food for the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-Op at our December meeting. We collected 89 lbs. Thanks to Jeri Bush for taking the food to the Co-Op for us.

QUILT EXHIBIT

The Grand Prairie Historical Organization is holding a quilt exhibit on January 20 from 10 am to 2 p.m. They are looking for quilters to lend quilts to be displayed. Quilts will be accepted the Friday night before, and available for pickup after the event ends. There is no charge to display a quilt; GPHO asks for a $5 donation to view.

Call 214-674-0200 with questions. Visit the guild’s website at qgogp.wordpress.com or the GP Historical Organization’s at gphistorical.com to download a mailable form. You can also e-mail treasurer@gphistorical.com.

JANUARY PROGRAM

“The Choices We Make” is the theme for 2018. In January we will focus on fabric. Each month we will have a special program show and tell in addition to the regular show and tell. For January, please bring a quilt you have made from pre-cuts. Be sure to share the pattern name in case anyone in the Guild is interested.

See you January 1, 2018.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH

The 2018 Block Party will follow a program from Moda that provided 16 “blueprint” block patterns that comprise the Moda Be My Neighbor quilt.

Quilt Guild members should have received an e-mail from contact@paco.org (Francisco Rodriguez) with the quilt’s fabric requirements and layout as well as the pattern for the first block.

The patterns and instructions are freely available on the web and you can follow the links attached to this story to download them.

The blueprints are rendered in gray-scale to allow everyone to color their neighborhood using a wide variety of fabric and color choices. These are very scrappy blocks — mix your favorite fabric and colors to create your colorful neighborhood. There are 16 blocks in the quilt top. The quilt top measures 68 inches by 84 1/2 inches.

If you have any questions, please contact Christine.
